I ran into an old friend of my ex-wife this week. She was very nice to me but the situation was definitely awkward. I thought I was aware prior to the failure of my marriage how difficult this entire transition was going to be. I wasn’t entirely caught of guard when my ex left so I had a little bit of time to imagine what I was in store for – the changes my life was going to take. I don’t think it is possible to predict the ripple effects of a long-term relationship that ends. A good friend of mine calls it collateral damage. When 2 people are together for a long time so many other lives are connected to their lives. The end of a single relationship can cause a chain reaction that ends so many friendships. The affects reach far and wide. People might mean well but the reality is that when friendships are linked to a union between 2 people that no longer exists, some of those friendships are going to change. It is very unfortunate but there is no real way around it, at least not in my case. I feel like my creative writing juices are a bit tapped out these days because I am in the beginning stages of attempting to put together a book. I feel like I am back in college and I have a monster mid-term paper due. Truth is that I don’t know what the hell I’m doing so it will be interesting to see what comes of it. I think I am more curious than anyone to see what the finished product will be.
