Dress use #74: Draft Stopper

I don’t know what the technical term is for an object you put at the base of the door to prevent cold air from coming in. I’ve never really needed one before.

A couple weeks ago Tucson was shocked by consecutive nights with low temperatures in the teens. I didn’t pay attention to advice that apparently was all over the news and didn’t wrap my pipes or leave my faucet trickling. So I went a day without water and ended up having to replace some pipes. I know – it gets much colder other places but because it doesn’t get that cold here our pipes don’t have to be deep in the ground and are actually exposed outside before they enter the house.

So I learned my lesson after the first freezing night and wrapped my pipes with the wedding dress for the second freezing night. A wedding dress actually comes in handy for many different things in the winter, including stopping a draft at the base of a door. I have also covered plants with the dress. It would also work well as a bleacher blanket for watching a chilly outdoor sporting event.

    • I love this blog! Totally funny idea. I stumbled upon it while looking for dresses for my actual wedding (hopefully they will not end up like this one) but you’ve given me some funky recycling ideas. Keep up the creative work!

PS. If you want to see my actual dress, you can see the designer on Gathering Guide… maybe you can suggest some recycling uses for my trash the dress session!
